Age Limit

Junior Training Officer (Fitter) (Post Code 3625):
  • Maximum age for candidates not belonging to reserved categories: 37 years.
  • Age concessions:
    • Persons with Benchmark Disability: 47 years.
    • Ex-Servicemen: 50 years.
    • Destitute Widows: No maximum age limit.
  • For BC (OBCM)s, BCMs, MBCs/DCs, SCs, SC(A)s, and STs: No maximum age limit.
Junior Tradesman (Fitter):
  • Maximum age for candidates not belonging to reserved categories: 30 years.
  • Age concessions:
    • Persons with Benchmark Disability: 40 years.
    • Ex-Servicemen: 48 years.
    • Destitute Widows: 30 years.
  • For BC/MBC/DNC/BCM candidates: Max age 35 years; Ex-Servicemen 45 years; Destitute Widows 35 years.
  • For SC/ST/SCA candidates: Max age 40 years; Ex-Servicemen 50 years; Destitute Widows 40 years.

Educational Qualification

Junior Training Officer (Fitter) (Post Code 3625):

Candidates must have passed SSLC or its equivalent, and possess one of the following:

  • A Degree in Mechanical, Production, or Manufacturing Engineering/Technology from an AICTE/UGC recognized institution.
  • A Diploma in Mechanical, Production, or Manufacturing Engineering from an AICTE/UGC recognized institution.
  • A National Trade Certificate or National Apprenticeship Certificate in Fitter.
Junior Tradesman (Fitter):

Candidates must have passed SSLC and possess an ITI certificate (NTC) in Fitter Trade. Additionally, they must have completed an apprenticeship under the Apprenticeship Act, 1961/1973, in Tamil Nadu and obtained a National Apprenticeship Certificate.

Note: Candidates without the ITI certificate in Fitter Trade are not eligible, even if they hold higher qualifications.

Scheme of Examination

The examination consists of a single-stage written test.

Paper I:

  • Part A - Tamil Eligibility Test:
    • 100 objective questions.
    • 150 marks.
    • SSLC standard.
    • Candidates must score a minimum of 60 marks (40%) to have other parts evaluated.
    • Differently abled candidates may be exempt if they provide necessary documentation.
  • Part B - General Studies:
    • 75 objective questions.
    • 150 marks.
    • SSLC standard.
  • Part C - Aptitude and Mental Ability:
    • 25 objective questions.
    • 50 marks.
    • SSLC standard.

The total duration for Paper I is 3 hours. Questions in Parts B and C are available in both English and Tamil.

Paper II - Subject Paper (Trade: Fitter, Subject Code 436):

  • This paper is at the I.T.I standard.
  • It consists of 200 questions, carrying a maximum of 300 marks.
  • The duration is 3 hours.
  • The question paper is provided in both English and Tamil.
  • The examination mode for Paper II is Computer Based Test (CBT).

Minimum Qualifying Marks:

For Paper I (Parts B and C combined) and Paper II:

  • SCs, SC(A)s, STs, MBCs/DCs, BC(OBCM)s, and BCMs: 135 marks.
  • Other candidates: 180 marks.

Important: Appearance in both Paper I and Paper II is mandatory for consideration in the selection process.

Syllabus for Trade: Fitter (Code: 436)

The syllabus for the Fitter trade is structured into several units, each with an indicative number of questions:

  • Unit I: Safety and Its Important (10 Questions)
    • Covers general safety precautions in industry/shop floor, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), first aid, operations of electrical mains, disposal of waste materials, occupational safety and health, safety signs, response to emergencies, importance of housekeeping, material handling, lifting, and moving heavy equipment.
  • Unit II: Basic Fitting (30 Questions)
    • Includes types, description, and uses of basic fitting tools such as vice, divider, scriber, marking block, micrometer, vernier caliper, surface gauge, try square, depth gauge, combination set, marking media, V blocks, angle plate, parallel block, gauges, and their parts. It also covers concepts like limits, fits, interchangeability, and screw pitch gauges.
  • Unit V: Limit, Fit, Tolerance and Interchangeability (10 Questions)
    • Focuses on the necessity of interchangeability, standard systems of limits and fits terminology, classification of fits as per Indian Standard (BIS system), and hole and shaft basis systems.
  • Unit VI: Turning (20 Questions)
    • Covers safety practices on lathes, main parts of a lathe, feed and thread cutting mechanisms, methods of holding jobs, different lathe operations, lathe tools and their nomenclature, tool selection, and basic operations like facing, taper turning, grooving, threading, and knurling.
  • Unit VII: Measurement and Inspection (30 Questions)
    • Includes details on various measuring and inspection instruments such as micrometers, vernier calipers, gauges (limit, plug, ring, snap), dial test indicators, sine bars, and slip gauges. It also covers principles, uses, and applications for taper calculation.
  • Unit VIII: Grinding and Welding (20 Questions)
    • Addresses grinding processes, types of grinding machines, grinding wheels and their specifications, balancing of grinding wheels, and welding processes (arc and gas welding) including equipment, tools, accessories, and safety precautions.
  • Unit IX: Drilling and Finishing (20 Questions)
    • Deals with different types of drilling machines, reamers, cutting speeds and feeds, jigs and fixtures, and finishing processes like lapping, honing, frosting, and scrapping.
  • Unit X: Hydraulics and Pneumatics (20 Questions)
    • Covers safety precautions, symbols, components (filters, pumps, cylinders, valves, FRL unit, actuators), tube and pipe assembly, and common maintenance procedures for hydraulic and pneumatic systems. It also includes pipe fittings, tools, and pipe repair/maintenance.
