🏆 Expert Preparation Strategy from Mahesh IES Academy, Chennai

The APPSC Draughtsman exam has a well-defined syllabus where thorough mastery of Surveying and Mensuration can guarantee a top rank:

  1. Surveying is the Game-Changer (Paper II): Units 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 are all dedicated to Surveying (Chaining, Compass, Levelling, Theodolite, Total Station, GPS). Practicing numerical problems on RL calculations (Rise & Fall, HI), closing errors (Bowditch), and contour gradients will fetch maximum marks.
  2. Master Earthwork & Area Rules: Questions on Simpson's 1/3rd rule, Trapezoidal rule, and Prismoidal formula for volumes are guaranteed scoring areas. Keep formulas handy.
  3. BIS Codes & IS: 962-1989: Memorize standard drawing sheet sizes (A0 to A5), scale ratios, and standard architectural symbols prescribed by Bureau of Indian Standards.
  4. Strict Accuracy against 1/3rd Negative Marking: Because the cutoff for 20 posts will be competitive, accuracy is vital. Target 120+ in Paper II and 100+ in Paper I.
